These cold months in Buffalo really do seem to be draining and dragging on. Many of us have probably already given up on our New Year’s resolutions as it is so hard to start your day the right way when the sky has been cloudy and gray for so long. So we say, let's do a New Month Resolution: start the day in a positive way! Trying to make a gloomy day into a productive one is no easy task, so we asked the team here at BC + PT what they do to start the day off right.
Waking up early
Dr. Rabie says to set your alarm for a slightly earlier start to the day! As hard as it is to get out of bed some mornings, even just an extra 15 minutes to make sure everything is where it needs to be has proven to be helpful in making him feel less stressed in the morning. With two kids under the age of two, Rabie takes a little extra time in the morning to get a head start on his day and avoid feeling rushed in the morning.
Walking the dog
Exercise can help boost your energy and mood, so why not start your day with a quick workout? Even just a few minutes of exercise can make a big difference. Both Drs. Rachel and Lyanne say they start their day with a walk around the neighborhood with their pups! Even if you don’t have a furry companion with you, they say that having that little time to help them really wake up and move makes them feel so much better for the remainder of the day.
Drink water and eat a little something
Dr. Larry says he starts every day with lemon water. He says that it helps him feel more awake and hydrated, and starting the day off with a healthy choice helps him make better choices throughout the day. Following that, Dr. Phil also says he tries to eat a healthy breakfast everyday. Having a breakfast that will fuel you for the rest of the day, Phil says, will make you feel more full and less likely to binge eat unhealthy foods later on in the day.
Some examples of a healthy breakfast include overnight oats, some avocado toast with an egg for protein, a Greek yogurt parfait, or a smoothie bowl with banana, nut butter and chia seeds. Yum!
Positive affirmations
Dr. Tim says that every morning, right before sending his kids off to school, he asks them: “What is today going to be?” and they answer, “A good day!” Getting yourself in the right mindset to have a good day is such a great idea, and Dr. Tim says that he and his kids have a more positive outlook on life because of it!
These four tips from the BC + PT team can help you start your day in the best way possible. Making a few small changes to your morning routine can make a big difference in how you feel throughout the day! Next time you see one of your doctors for a physical therapy or chiropractic appointment, make sure to pick their brain about the best ways they start their day.
